As I promised in the last post, here is the article about Part time job in a month. There are times in our lives where we need to look for part time job to look after our living expenses, course fee, and even for small holiday plan. International students always have confusion about getting part time in Australia, if you follow the below methodology you will find part time job at least in one month or so. Remember this is just my experience and I am sharing this experience with every one through this blog to help you.
Networking: Richard Bolles once said "He or she who gets hired is not necessarily the one who can do that job best, but the one who knows the most about how to get hired." “Networking” is one of the simple ways to find part time job in Australia. If you have attitude of giving then you will get back the same from others. Most of international students will find part time job through personal contact. Study conducted by SEEK reveled that 40% of part time jobs are filled without advertised in Newspapers, job portal or other sources. Develop contact - friends, family, neighbors, college alumni, people in associations - anyone who might help generate information and job leads. Job networking sited like Workplace is one the best place to start, you will find lot of information about networking.
Apply in Person: Leave your hesitation, move around and find the job - this is the simple way to find part time job. Applying for job in person is little bit different from applying online. You should be prepared for interview or sometime be ready for trial shift as well. Make sure you got your resume handy, dress neat and tidy, take your pen, and communicate strongly with the employer. After few days do a follow-up call and make sure you let the employer you are still interested in that position. If you have confusion in preparing resume refer my pervious post “How to write killer resume”, this article will help you to prepare your resume.
Apply Online: There are numerous websites where you can apply online, but make sure you do your home work before applying. First understand what the requirements are and then create your resume, due to increase in number of applicants most of the employers using automated system to screen your resume. Secondly make sure you got all the relevant information about your pervious employment (if any), Address, Education information, driving license number, your pervious pay, and how many days and hours you are available. Below are the few companies you can start with:
Petrol stations:
1. BP
2. Shell
3. Caltex
4. WoolWorths
Super Market and Shopping stores:
1. WoolWorths
2. Coles
3. K-Mart
4. Big-W
5. Harisscarfe
7. Target
Food and Pizza:
1. KFC
2. Hungry Jacks
3. McDonalds
4. Redrooster
5. Subway
6. Dominos
7. Pizza hut
8. Pizza Heaven
Mobile and Electronic stores:
1. 3 Mobile
2. Telstra
3. Optus
4. Vodofone
5. JB HI-FI
6. Harvey Norman
7. Dick Smith
8. Bunnings warehouse
News Paper: News paper is another source to find part time jobs, it always worth spending around 3 dollars a week to find the job you are after. Most the part time jobs will be advertised in newspaper rather then web portal. If you want to know the list of newspaper in your state, please refer to the following link. Make sure you look for classification section and buy newspaper regularly, but sometimes you can find daily newspaper in your university library as well.
Job Advertisement sites: This is the last option but very power full option to search part time job. Lot of well recognized companies will advertise the vacancy in online job portal. I have written an article about “5 best job search portal in Australia” which will give you more information about different portal and different ways to find part time job.
Few Tips:
1) Make sure you got your resume handy.
2) Stay focused , don’t loose hope on yourself.
3) Employers always look for people who have good communication and good personal skills.
4) Be familiar with transportation, this will help you to find the better place to apply for job.
5) Something is better then nothing. Take the first chance and try to improve with your experience.
6) Driving skills always help you with some part time job like pizza driver, courier service and much more.
7) Don’t ever work more then 20 hours or without TFN/ABN. If you want to know how to apply for TFN refer to my article here

An informative article! However, it could have been much better if the writer gave some information about the procedure of getting on-campus jobs, as it would save the students the time from commuting to a fro the job site.
